Amphorae are the standard containers used for sea transportation of several goods: wine, oil, salting goods (garum) and other products, originally foreign to the region. Studying these is very helpful to better understand the complex world of trade in theRoman period. Through the amphoral remains we know wine arrivedin our city, perhaps of Italian origin, or of the importation of oil and garum from Hispania Beticae, or the much more exotic oil, such as the kind of oil from either the Black or Aegean Sea; as there was a different kind of amphora for each product. Thesekind of vessels are very widespread in Lucus Augusti especially in the first half of the First Century A.D. The most important of all of the amphorae are the Haltern 70 models.
