| Pottery: Red slipped |
|
It is a genuine production of the local industry of Lucus Augusti, among whose outputs plates, dishes and jugs are also identified, all of them sharing as a common denominator the presence of a red slip. This tableware enjoyed wide distribution, especially within the area of the Lucense conventus, but also extended beyond this territory, as demonstrated by finds from the Asturicense and Bracarense areas. The presence of potters’ marks on many examples of this production confirms the particular prestige these pieces held in comparison with other similar wares. Some of the potters’ stamps correspond to Quinti, Rufi, Rufiani, Secundi, Saturnini and Capito, among the best known. |
