In Lugo samples of Roman sculpture are meager, if not almost nonexistent, whether sculptures or relief. Granite is the material most commonly used both in culturedand popular sculptures. The pieces made of marble are scarce, as there are almostno quarries in Galicia, except in the Incio region. Works show the cultured side of art in the Roman provinces, created with classical techniques, with sculptures and reliefs that reflect the themes much appreciated by the Roman elite. Bronze sculpture is scarce, linked to cultured arts with representations of classical themes and made with the lost-wax casting technique. Steles are some of the most represented monuments in Roman Galicia, which deserve a special mention, as there is a wide variety of samples and are authentic examples of less cultured provincial artworks. |
